Bruce Barton Holmes (born October 24, 1965) is a former American football player. He played as a linebacker, which is a defensive position in football. Bruce played for two seasons in the National Football League (NFL). He was part of the Kansas City Chiefs and the Minnesota Vikings.
He was chosen by the Chiefs in the 1987 NFL draft. Before playing professionally, he played college football at the University of Minnesota. Bruce also played in the Canadian Football League (CFL) for teams like the Toronto Argonauts, Ottawa Rough Riders, and BC Lions.
Early Life and High School Years
Bruce Holmes grew up in Detroit, Michigan. He went to Henry Ford High School there. This is where he started his journey in football.
College Football Career
Bruce played college football for the Minnesota Golden Gophers. He was on their team from 1983 to 1986. In 1986, the coaches named him to the First-team All-Big Ten. This means he was one of the best players in his college conference.
He was also named the defensive MVP of the 1985 Independence Bowl. Being an MVP means he was the most valuable player in that important game.
Professional Football Journey
Bruce Holmes was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the 1987 NFL draft. He was the 325th player picked that year. In the 1987 season, he played in three games for the Chiefs, starting in all of them.
After his time in the NFL, Bruce moved to the Canadian Football League (CFL).
