Bruegger's is a well-known restaurant chain that specializes in making fresh bagels. It's part of a bigger company called JAB Holding Company. Bruegger's runs its own bagel bakeries and also lets other people open Bruegger's restaurants as franchises.

Did you know Bruegger's makes about 70 million bagels every year? That's a lot of bagels! They even hold a Guinness World Record for baking the world's largest bagel. Bruegger's is famous for making authentic New York-style bagels. These bagels are boiled in a kettle before baking, which gives them their special chewy texture. Each Bruegger's location bakes its 14 different bagel flavors fresh every morning.

Besides bagels, Bruegger's also offers many other tasty items. They have over 11 flavors of cream cheese, made right in Vermont. You can also find egg sandwiches, lunch deli sandwiches, muffins, cookies, and various drinks like coffee, espresso, and tea. Bruegger's has about 190 restaurants. You can find them in 16 U.S. states and also in Washington, D.C.

Bruegger's was started in 1983 by two friends, Nordahl Brue and Mike Dressell. Their very first store opened in Troy, New York.

Over the years, Bruegger's grew and changed owners a few times. In 2003, a company called Sun Capital Partners bought Bruegger's from the founders. Today, Bruegger's still has around 190 locations across the U.S. Its main office is in Burlington, Vermont.

In 2009, Bruegger's bought some other popular Canadian food brands. These included Timothy's World Coffee, mmmuffins, and Michel's Baguette. Bruegger's wanted to keep these brands running.

Later, in 2011, a French company called Groupe Le Duff bought Bruegger's. They even opened some Bruegger's restaurants in France! Then, in 2017, Bruegger's was bought again by JAB Holding Company, which also owns Caribou Coffee.

Michel's Bakery Café

Michel's Bakery Café, once known as Michel's Baguettes, is a Canadian bakery-café. It started in 1980 and has restaurants all over Canada. It's one of the biggest bakery-café chains in Canada.

In 2009, Bruegger's Enterprises, Inc. bought Michel's Baguette. Bruegger's has continued to operate these stores. Michel's Bakery Café has updated its look and changed its name to Michel's Bakery Café.

Setting a World Record

On August 27, 2004, Bruegger's did something amazing. They created the world's largest bagel! This huge bagel still holds the Guinness World Record.

The giant bagel weighed an incredible 868 pounds (about 394 kg). It took 1,100 pounds (about 500 kg) of dough and 900 gallons (about 3,400 liters) of water to make it. Baking this massive bagel took 10 hours! It was cooked at the New York State Fair. After it was baked, the bagel was sliced and shared with everyone watching. People were asked to donate money to local food banks, which help people who don't have enough food.
