The area around Brunswick uses parts of two different ZIP codes: 55051 (which is mainly for Mora) and 55006 (which is for Braham).
History of Brunswick
Brunswick was officially planned and mapped out in 1856. It is located within Brunswick Township. The community's story began with the Hersey, Staples, and Bean Lumber Company. This company had its main logging office nearby.
Two important people, George and Isaac Staples, were involved in planning the community. They named Brunswick after a town in Brunswick, Maine.
Because Brunswick had stores, a post office, and mills, it became very important. On March 13, 1859, it was chosen as the county seat for Kanabec County. This meant it was the main center for the county's government.
However, Brunswick didn't stay the county seat forever. In 1883, the county seat was moved to Mora.
A post office was opened in Brunswick in 1860. It served the community for many years before closing in 1934.
