Discover Bubikon's Past
Bubikon has a really old history. Some of its place names, like Mürg, come from the Celts, who were ancient people living in Europe. Other names, like Tafleten, Kammern, and Zell, might have come from the Roman Empire, a huge empire that existed long ago.
The first time Bubikon was mentioned in writing was in the year 811. Back then, it was called Puapinchova.
The Knights Hospitaller Commandry
A very important place in Bubikon's history is the Ritterhaus Bubikon. This was a special building for the Knights Hospitaller. They were a group of knights who helped people and also fought in wars during the Middle Ages. The land for this commandry (a type of headquarters for the knights) was given to them between 1191 and 1198.
Later, in 1528, the religious part of the commandry was changed. Then, in 1798, the whole commandry became a regular building, no longer run by the knights.

The town is located in the upper Glatt Valley. It sits on a "water divide," which means it's a high point where water flows in different directions – some towards the Glatt river and some towards Lake Zurich.
Bubikon includes the main villages of Bubikon and Wolfhausen. It also has smaller areas called hamlets like Barenberg, Berlikon, Bürg, and Wändhüslen. You can also find the beautiful Egelsee lake right here in the municipality!
