Bucarabones is a small area, known as a barrio, located in the municipality of Maricao in Puerto Rico. In 2010, its population was 164 people. It covers an area of about 5.29 square miles.

History of Bucarabones

How Puerto Rico Became Part of the U.S.

After the Spanish–American War, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States. This happened under the rules of the Treaty of Paris of 1898. Puerto Rico then became an unincorporated territory of the U.S. This means it is a U.S. territory but not a state.

Early Population Counts

In 1899, the United States Department of War conducted a special count of people in Puerto Rico. This count is called a census.
