Buck Meadows is a small community in Mariposa County, California. It's known as a census-designated place, which means it's a special area defined by the government for counting people. The community is located about 2 miles (3.2 km) east-northeast of Smith Peak. It sits at an elevation of 3,015 feet (919 meters) above sea level. In 2020, only 21 people lived here.
Buck Meadows is very close to the border of Tuolumne County. It is right on State Route 120, which is a main road. The town of Groveland is about 11 miles (18 km) to the west. Buck Meadows shares its ZIP Code (95321) with Groveland.
The area gets its name from Buck's Meadow, a nearby spot. Long ago, it was also called Hamilton's Station. This might have been a stop for stagecoaches, which were like old-fashioned buses.
East of Buck Meadows, you can find a place called "Rim of the World." It offers amazing views of the canyon where the South Fork of the Tuolumne River flows. Even further east, there's a picnic area called "Rainbow Pool" in the Stanislaus National Forest. It's a great spot to cool off on hot days.
Buck Meadows is home to the Lucky Buck Restaurant. The U.S. Forest Service has a fire lookout at Smith Peak, which helps watch over the area. There's also a U.S. Forest Service campground and a fire station in the community. The Pines campground is a popular place for visitors.

History of Buck Meadows
Buck Meadows began as a stop for stagecoaches in the 1870s. It was first set up by a person named Alva Hamilton, which is why it was called Hamilton's Station. Later, the community had its own post office. This post office was open from 1915 to 1925.

Buck Meadows is a small area. According to the United States Census Bureau, it covers about 0.535 square miles (1.386 square kilometers). All of this area is land, with no water.
