History of Bundaberg South
Bundaberg South has a long history, especially with its schools.
Early Schools in Bundaberg South
The first Bundaberg South State School opened on 6 February 1875. It closed in 1885 and split into two schools. These were the Bundaberg South Boys State School and the Bundaberg South Girls and Infants State School. Around 1894, both schools changed their names. They became Bundaberg Central Boys State School and Bundaberg Central Girls and Infants State School. In 1926, these two schools joined together. They formed the Bundaberg Central State School, which is now in Bundaberg Central.
A second Bundaberg South State School started on 11 May 1891. This is the school that exists today.
St Mary's Mission Hall
St Mary's Mission Hall, an Anglican Church, opened on 26 March 1895. It served the community for many years. The hall closed its doors in 1989.
Bundaberg State High School
Bundaberg State High School first opened on 22 January 1912. In 1964, its name changed to Bundaberg State High School and Technical College. A year later, in 1965, the technical college part became separate. The school then went back to being called Bundaberg State High School.

In 2018, about 185 students attended the school. There were 15 teachers and 13 other staff members helping out.
Bundaberg State High School
This is a government secondary school. It teaches students from Year 7 to Year 12. The school is located at 37 Maryborough Street (24°52′37″S 152°20′59″E / 24.8770°S 152.3498°E). In 2018, a large number of students, 1,406, were enrolled. The school had 117 teachers and 68 non-teaching staff. It also has a special program for students who need extra support with their learning.
