Burlöv Municipality (pronounced BOOR-luv) is a municipality in Skåne County in southern Sweden. It is located just north of the big city of Malmö. The main town, or seat, of Burlöv is Arlöv. Arlöv is actually considered part of Malmö for geographical reasons.
Burlöv is special because it's one of the few municipalities in Sweden that hasn't joined with other areas since it was created in 1863. It's also the second smallest municipality in the entire country!

Exploring Burlöv's Geography
Burlöv Municipality is mostly flat land. You won't find any large forests, lakes, or rivers here. Instead, it has many important power lines, busy highways, and train tracks. This is because it's on the main route from Malmö to northern Sweden.
Like much of Scania, a lot of the land in Burlöv is used for farming. You can still see old farms, mills, and other interesting buildings from past centuries nearby.
Main Urban Areas
There are three main urban areas (also called tätort) in Burlöv Municipality. One of them is Arlöv, which is the largest.

Arlöv is a town that became industrialized early on. It has many apartment buildings and was historically a place where many working-class families lived. Its biggest industry is the Arlöv Sugar Factory. This factory processes huge amounts of sugar beets that come from all over Scania.
You can also find Burlöv Center in Arlöv. It's a large shopping mall that serves the whole region.
Åkarp and Burlövs egnahem are different. They are mostly made up of houses with their own yards. These areas have a suburban feel. Many people who live here travel to nearby cities for work or shopping.
Burlöv's Population
The population of Burlöv Municipality grew by almost 1,000 people between 1986 and 2003. Most of this growth happened because more babies were born. People moving in and out also played a small part. It's common for young people to move away from smaller communities, while families with children often move in.
Getting Around Burlöv
Burlöv is a key transport hub. The major highways, E6 and E22, meet here. They then share a route south towards Malmö. Burlöv is also on the main train line, called the Southern Main Line. Local commuter trains, known as Pågatågen, serve the area.
Culture and History of Burlöv
Near the agricultural fields of Arlöv, you can find the Old Church of Burlöv. This church is in the Burlöv Village. It's one of the oldest churches in Scania. It has mostly stayed the same way it was built in the 12th century. Its oldest parts are made from sandstone.
The municipality's coat of arms tells a story about its history. It shows a sugar beet, which represents the sugar industry that was very important here for a long time. The star on the coat of arms stands for the Hvilan folk high school. This school was one of the very first folk high schools established in Sweden, back in 1868.
