Burnsfield is a small area, also known as a locality, located in the Mid North region of South Australia. It sits just north of the town of Snowtown. You can find it on the eastern side of the main road called the Augusta Highway.

Burnsfield is part of South Australia's Mid North. This region is known for its farming and wide-open spaces. The locality is positioned north of Snowtown, a well-known town in the area. It's also right next to the Augusta Highway, which is a major road connecting different parts of the state.
Burnsfield is situated at the western base of the Hummocks Range. This is a range of hills that adds to the natural scenery of the area.
How Burnsfield Got Its Name
The name "Burnsfield" comes from a railway station. This station was called Burnsfield railway station. It was located near the southwestern part of the locality.
The railway station itself was named after the Burns family. This family owned the land in the area for many years. They owned it even before the Salisbury-Redhill railway line was built in 1925. The Burns family first settled on this land around the year 1878.
Salt Mining in Burnsfield
Burnsfield is also a place where salt is mined. In 2011, a special permit was given for mining salt. This permit allowed mining to happen for eight years.
The salt mining takes place on a specific site. This site covers about 83 hectares. It is located in the north-west part of the Burnsfield locality.
