How People Traveled: Trains and Railways
Brinkworth used to be an important place for trains. It was a "junction," meaning different train lines met there. One line went from Hamley Bridge to Gladstone. Another line went through Snowtown to Kadina and Wallaroo.
Train Track Changes
When they were first built, these train lines used "narrow gauge" tracks. This means the tracks were closer together (1067 millimeters wide). In 1927, the tracks were changed to "broad gauge." These tracks are wider (1600 millimeters).
Railway Closures
The train line connecting Hamley Bridge and Gladstone closed in May 1988. The line from Kadina to Brinkworth closed a few years later, in March 1993. Today, the old railway tracks and yards in Brinkworth are no longer there.
