Burrton is a city in Harvey County, Kansas, United States. It was named after Isaac T. Burr. He was a vice-president of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. In 2020, the city had a population of 861 people.

History of Burrton
Early Kansas Land

For thousands of years, Native American tribes lived on the land that is now Kansas. In 1803, the United States bought most of modern Kansas. This was part of the Louisiana Purchase.
In 1854, the Kansas Territory was created. Then, in 1861, Kansas became the 34th U.S. state. Harvey County was officially started in 1872.
Founding the City
Burrton was planned out in 1873. It got its name from Burrton Township. The township was named after I.T. Burr, who worked for the railroad. The first post office in Burrton opened in June 1873. Burrton officially became a city in 1878.
Burrton was an important shipping center. This was because it was located where two railroads met.
