Burwell is a city in Garfield County, Nebraska, United States. It is the main town, or county seat, of Garfield County. In 2020, about 1,087 people lived there.

History of Burwell
Burwell was planned and started as a town in 1883. Just a few years later, in 1887, a railroad line was built to reach Burwell. This helped the town grow and connect with other places.
One of the biggest and most exciting events in Burwell is "Nebraska's Big Rodeo". This annual event usually takes place during the last weekend of July. The rodeo has been a very important part of the town's life and economy for over 80 years. It brings many visitors to Burwell each summer.
Burwell was also one of the first towns in Nebraska to have an FFA chapter. The FFA is an organization for students interested in agriculture and leadership. Burwell's chapter started in March 1929.
