This mountain is about 2.87 miles (4.62 km) northwest of Guadalupe Peak. Guadalupe Peak is actually the tallest mountain nearby. Bush Mountain is special because it has a high "prominence" of 951 feet (290 m). Prominence means how much a mountain sticks up from the land around it. This makes it the 22nd most prominent mountain in Texas!
Exploring Bush Mountain
Bush Mountain is part of the Guadalupe Mountains National Park. This park has a special area called the Wilderness. Because it's a wilderness area, you can only visit Bush Mountain by hiking or riding a horse. No cars or other vehicles are allowed!
How to Reach the Summit
You can start your adventure to Bush Mountain from two main places in Guadalupe Mountains National Park. One is called Pine Springs, and the other is Dog Canyon.
- The trail from Pine Springs is about 6.7 miles (10.8 km) long, one way.
- The Bush Mountain Trail goes right over the top of the mountain.
Camping and Facilities
If you want to stay overnight, there's a special place called the Bush Mountain Campground. It's located right along the trail, just below the mountain's summit on the southeast side. The National Park Service also has a radio repeater on the summit. This helps park rangers communicate across the park.
