Butler Creek is a small stream that flows through two U.S. states: Arkansas and Missouri. It is a branch, or tributary, of the larger White River.
Where Does Butler Creek Start and End?
Butler Creek begins in Barry County, Missouri. The exact starting point, called the headwaters, is at 36°31′26″N 93°56′18″W / 36.52389°N 93.93833°W. From there, it flows generally east and then southeast.
The stream then crosses into Carroll County, Arkansas. It joins the White River in Arkansas, which is called its confluence. This meeting point is located near 36°28′15″N 93°46′31″W / 36.47083°N 93.77528°W.
Butler Creek's Journey
After starting southeast of a town called Seligman in Missouri, Butler Creek flows for about 3.5 miles (5.6 km) towards the east and northeast. Then, it turns southeast and travels for about three more miles (4.8 km).
It enters Arkansas just north of Busch. East of Busch, the creek goes under Arkansas Route 187. It then flows alongside this road for about 2.5 miles (4 km). Finally, it meets the White River just before reaching the town of Beaver.
How Butler Creek Got Its Name
Butler Creek was named after a local family who lived in the area. The "Butler family" were early settlers or prominent people in the region.
