The Story of Cabrero
Cabrero started as a small community that grew around a train station. This station helped people living in the countryside. Later, many immigrants came to Cabrero, especially from the Middle East and Italy. They helped the city grow even more!
How Many People Live Here?
According to a census from 2002, Cabrero has about 25,282 people. This includes 12,888 men and 12,394 women. The city covers an area of about 639.8 square kilometers.
Most people, about 18,037, live in the city's urban areas. The rest, about 7,245 people, live in the rural areas around the city. Between 1992 and 2002, Cabrero's population grew by 16.5%!
How Cabrero is Managed
Cabrero is a commune, which is like a local government area in Chile. It is managed by a municipal council. The leader of the commune is called an alcalde, who is similar to a mayor. The people of Cabrero directly elect their alcalde every four years.
The current alcalde is Mario Gierke Quevedo. He is an independent, meaning he doesn't belong to a specific political party.
Amazing Saltos del Laja
One of the most famous natural attractions near Cabrero is the Saltos del Laja. These beautiful waterfalls are located about 25 kilometers south of the city. They are a popular spot for visitors to enjoy nature.
