History of Cadillac-sur-Garonne
Cadillac-sur-Garonne was first established in 1280. It was founded by Jean I de Grailly, who was the lord of the nearby Benauges Castle. He created Cadillac-sur-Garonne to serve as an important river port. This allowed goods and people to travel easily along the Garonne River.
What's in a Name?
The name Cadillac comes from a very old Roman name, Catilius. Over time, the name changed to Cadilacum around the year 1306. The ending -acum is an ancient Gaulish word. It was used to show where someone was from or to mark a piece of property belonging to a person.
