Cadiz (which sounds like Cah-diz) is a small, unincorporated community. It is located in the Mojave Desert in San Bernardino County, California, United States. You can find it just south of the Marble Mountains. It is also near the historic National Trails Highway. Cadiz first became important as a water stop for trains.

History of Cadiz
The community of Cadiz got its name in 1883. It was named by Lewis Kingman, who was an engineer for the Atlantic and Pacific Railroad. Cadiz is the third in a series of railroad stations in the Mojave Desert that are named in alphabetical order.

This area gets a lot of sunshine all year long. This is because of the stable air and high pressure in the region.
The Cadiz Valley Aquifer
Underneath the Cadiz Valley, there is a very large aquifer. An aquifer is an underground layer of rock or sand that holds water.
Water Resources and Future Plans
A company called Cadiz, Inc. owns a lot of land around Cadiz. They own more than 35,000 acres (about 140 square kilometers). This company has plans to sell water from the aquifer. There have been discussions about how the government reviews such water projects.
Railroads in Cadiz
Cadiz is an important stop on the BNSF Railway's Southern Transcon line. This major railway line connects Los Angeles to Chicago. Before BNSF, it was part of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway line.
Connecting to Other Cities
From Cadiz, the Arizona & California Railroad runs. This line uses a former ATSF track. It goes all the way to Phoenix, passing through Parker, Arizona.
Plans for a Tourist Train
In 2013, Cadiz, Inc. discussed a plan for a tourist train. This train would run between Cadiz and Parker. The idea was for the train to be powered by a steam locomotive. There were also plans for a new train station and a museum in Cadiz.
Cadiz Airstrip
The Cadiz Airstrip (known as CA90) is located south of the railroad tracks. It has one paved runway that is 5,280 feet (about 1,609 meters) long. The airstrip can be reached by a dirt road. There are no buildings at the airstrip.
