Callville Bay marina

Callville Bay is a popular spot on the northwestern side of Lake Mead in the Nevada desert. It's a great place for families and friends, with a big marina and a fun camping resort. You can find Callville Bay east of Las Vegas, and it's part of the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. This special area was created in 1935 to protect the land and water.

The bay gets its name from an old settlement called Callville. This town was started in 1865 by a man named Anson Call, following instructions from Brigham Young. Even though the town was abandoned in 1869 and later covered by Lake Mead when the Colorado River was dammed, the name "Callville Bay" stayed!

The Story of Callville Bay

How Callville Bay Got Its Name

Callville Bay is named after an old settlement called Callville. People also called it Call's Landing or Call's Fort. This town had homes, a warehouse, and even ways to water crops. It was started on December 2, 1864, by Anson Call and a few other people. They were told to build it by Brigham Young.

Callville was an important port for steamboats. These boats would carry goods to Salt Lake City. But after the Hoover Dam was built on the Colorado River, Lake Mead formed, and the old town of Callville was covered by water.
