Calumet is a small town in Canadian County, Oklahoma, USA. It's part of the bigger Oklahoma City area. In 2010, about 507 people lived there. By 2020, the population was 443.
The name "Calumet" comes from a word for a special Ceremonial pipe. The town officially became a town in 1942. But people started settling this land much earlier, during the Land Run of 1892.

History of Calumet
Calumet became an official town in 1942. This was done so the town could build its own water system. Before that, it was just a small community. It had a post office, a few mills, and some stores. These included general stores, a furniture shop, and a hardware store.
How Calumet Land Was Settled
The land where Calumet is located was once part of the Louisiana Purchase in 1803. Later, in 1890, the area became Oklahoma Territory. Canadian County was called County Four back then.
New settlers, who were not Native American, came to this area. They arrived during events like the Land Run of 1889 and the Land Run of 1892. There was also a land lottery in 1901. The Land Run of 1892 opened up land that used to belong to the Cheyenne and Arapaho tribes. This is how Calumet began to be settled.
Geography of Calumet
Calumet is located in the northwest part of Canadian County. It sits along US Route 270. The town is about 11 miles northwest of El Reno. It is also 11 miles east of Geary. The North Canadian River is just 1.5 miles north of Calumet.
The town is found where two different natural areas meet. These are the Red Bed Plains and the Gypsum Hills. The United States Census Bureau says Calumet covers about 1.3 square miles of land. There is no water area within the town limits.

Calumet has a climate with warm summers and mild winters. The hottest month is usually July, with average high temperatures around 94.4°F (34.7°C). The coldest month is January, with average low temperatures around 24.2°F (-4.3°C).
The town gets a good amount of rain throughout the year. May and June are usually the wettest months. The average yearly rainfall is about 28.1 inches (71.4 cm).
