Calvert is a small place in Alabama, United States. It's not a city or town with its own government. Instead, it's called an unincorporated community. This means it's managed by the larger Mobile and Washington counties. It's also a census-designated place (CDP), which is an area the government counts for population.
Calvert is located in the very northeast part of Mobile County and the southeast part of Washington County. It's close to the Tombigbee River and sits along U.S. Route 43. In 2020, about 255 people lived in Calvert.
A big steel factory was built here in 2007 by a German company called ThyssenKrupp. This factory made both stainless steel and regular carbon steel. It started working in 2010. Later, parts of the factory were sold to other companies. The stainless steel part was sold to a Finnish company called Outokumpu in 2012. The rest of the factory, which makes a lot of steel, was bought by ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel in 2014. They renamed it AM/NS Calvert. This factory was once the second-largest employer in the area.
