History of Camdenton
Camdenton started in the 1930s. This happened when the Lake of the Ozarks was built. The old county seat, Linn Creek, was covered by the lake's waters. So, a new city was needed for the county government.
How Camdenton Got Its Name
The city gets its name from Camden County. The name Camdenton was chosen because no other city had that name. A post office opened in Camdenton in 1931.
Planning the City
The city was planned in 1930. Clint Webb and Jim Banner designed it. They used a 160-acre piece of land. This land was where two main roads met: U.S. Route 54 and Missouri Route 5. The first plan for the streets was to make them look like a wagon wheel.
