Why Was Camp Far West Lake Built?
The dam that created Camp Far West Lake was built in 1963. It was an important part of the California State Water Project. This big project helps manage water across California.
Controlling Floods
One main reason for building the dam was to control floods. Before the dam, heavy rains could cause the Central Valley (California) to flood. The dam helps hold back extra water, protecting nearby towns and farms.
Making Electricity
The dam also helps make hydroelectric power. This means it uses the force of moving water to create electricity. This power helps supply homes and businesses in the area. The South Sutter Water District owns and operates this important facility.
Fun Things to Do at the Lake
Camp Far West Lake is a great place for outdoor adventures! There are many ways to enjoy nature around the lake.
