History of Campbell
Campbell was first settled in 1844 and was called Four Mile. The town was officially planned out, or platted, in 1886. It was renamed Campbell after Alexander Campbell, who was a local judge. A post office was set up in 1855 under the name Four Mile. This name was changed to Campbell in 1882.
Geography of Campbell
Campbell is located in the northwestern part of the Missouri Bootheel. This area is shaped like the heel of a boot. The city sits where two main roads meet: US Route 62 and Missouri Route 53.
Nearby towns include:
- Malden, about seven miles northeast.
- St. Francis, Arkansas, about 4.5 miles southwest, located on the St. Francis River.
- Kennett, about 17 miles south.
