History of Canal Lewisville
Canal Lewisville started because of the Ohio Canal. This important canal was built through the area. In 1832, a person named T. Butler Lewis and others planned the town. They named it after him. A post office opened in Canal Lewisville in 1845. It stayed open for many years until 1915.
Geography of Canal Lewisville
Canal Lewisville is in the eastern part of Coshocton County. It sits on the edge of two areas called Keene and Tuscarawas townships. The community is on the north side of the Tuscarawas River.
It is about 3.3 miles (5.3 km) northeast of where the Tuscarawas River meets the Walhonding River. This meeting point is near Coshocton. When these two rivers join, they form the Muskingum River. The Muskingum River then flows into the Ohio River.
