Caney Creek is a small stream located in Ozark County, in the southern part of Missouri. This area is known as the Ozarks, a beautiful region with many hills and forests. Caney Creek is a smaller stream that flows into a larger one called Pine Creek.
Where Caney Creek Starts and Flows
Caney Creek begins in a place called Preston Flat Ridge. This area is part of the Caney Mountain Conservation Area. It's about six miles north of the town of Gainesville. The very beginning of a stream is called its headwaters.
Journey of the Creek
From its starting point, Caney Creek flows towards the southeast. As it travels, it passes by Caney Mountain. This mountain was actually named after the creek itself! The creek also flows under Missouri Route 181, a road southwest of a small community called Zanoni.
Where Caney Creek Ends
Caney Creek continues its journey southeast until it meets Pine Creek. This meeting point is southwest of the community of Luna. It's also about one mile northwest of where Pine Creek joins Bryant Creek, near the town of Tecumseh.
