Captree is a special kind of community called a census-designated place (CDP). It is located in Suffolk County, New York. Captree is unique because it sits on two islands: Captree Island and the east end of Jones Beach Island. It is also home to Captree State Park.

This area was first officially listed as a CDP before the 2020 census. Before that, it was part of a larger area known as Oak Beach–Captree. In 2020, only 48 people lived in Captree, making it a very small community.

Where is Captree Located?

Captree is in the southwestern part of Suffolk County. It is found on two islands that are between Long Island to the north and Fire Island to the south.

Part of Two Towns

Captree is split between two different towns. The eastern two-thirds of Captree are in the town of Islip. The western part of Captree Island, which is west of the Robert Moses Causeway, is in the town of Babylon.

Getting Around Captree

The Robert Moses Causeway is a major road that connects Captree and Jones Beach islands. It links them to West Islip on Long Island, about 6 miles (10 km) to the north.

To the south, the Fire Island Inlet Bridge connects Captree to Robert Moses State Park on Fire Island. This bridge is about 1 mile (1.6 km) long.
