History of Capulin
The town of Capulin was started by people who moved from Ojo Caliente, New Mexico, in 1867. The name "Capulin" is a local word for a type of fruit called a chokecherry. The Capulin Post Office first opened its doors on August 10, 1881.
Geography of Capulin
Capulin is located in the northern part of Conejos County. Colorado State Highway 15 runs through the area. If you travel east on this highway for about 8 miles (13 km), you will reach U.S. Route 285, which is just north of La Jara. If you go west and then north for about 22 miles (35 km), you will arrive at Monte Vista.
The Capulin CDP covers an area of about 0.95 square miles (2.453 square kilometers). All of this area is land, with no water.

- Eppie Archuleta was a very talented weaver from Capulin. She was known as a "master weaver" because she was so skilled at making beautiful textiles. In 1985, she received the National Heritage Fellowship. This is a special award given to people who are masters of traditional arts in the United States.
