Carlos José Castilho (born November 27, 1927 – died February 2, 1987) was a very famous Brazilian goalkeeper in football. He was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Castilho played for the club Fluminense for many years, from 1947 to 1964. He also played for the Brazilian national team.
He was part of Brazil's team in four World Cups: 1950, 1954, 1958, and 1962. He helped Brazil win the World Cup twice, in 1958 and 1962! Even though he was on the team for four World Cups, he only played in three games, all during the 1954 tournament.
Castilho was known for making incredible saves that seemed impossible. Fans of opposing teams called him "Leiteria," which means "lucky man," because he seemed to have so much good luck. Fluminense supporters called him "Saint Castilho" because he was so good.
He had a special condition called color blindness. He said this helped him see yellow balls as if they were red, which he thought gave him an advantage. However, he found it hard to see white balls at night.
