Early Life and Music
Carlos Marín was born in Rüsselsheim, West Germany, but grew up in Madrid, Spain. He started his music journey very early. When he was just eight years old, he recorded his first album. It was called The Little Caruso and featured classic songs like "O Sole Mio". He even sang "Granada" in front of 800 people at that young age!
Two years later, at age ten, he released another album called Mijn Lieve Mama (My Dear Mother). These early experiences led him to learn piano and solfeggio, which is how musicians learn to read music. Carlos lived in the Netherlands for a while before moving back to Spain when he was twelve.
In Spain, he won several awards on TV shows like "Gente Joven" (Young People). He became well-known for his singing and performed in many musical contests.
Musicals and Voice Acting
Carlos Marín also became a star in musical theater. In 1993, he played Marius in Les Misérables. He also performed in other popular shows like Beauty and the Beast and Grease. He even helped direct the music for the Peter Pan musical.
His voice was also used in movies! He sang in Henry Selick's animated film, The Nightmare Before Christmas. He was also the singing voice for the Prince in Disney's Spanish version of Cinderella in 2000.
Carlos was always working to improve his singing. He took lessons from famous opera singers like Alfredo Kraus and Montserrat Caballé. He became a respected primo baritono (a leading baritone singer) in many operas, including La Traviata and The Barber of Seville. He also performed in zarzuela, which is a type of Spanish musical play.
Il Divo Group
In December 2003, Carlos Marín joined the international music group Il Divo. The group also included Urs Bühler from Switzerland, Sébastien Izambard from France, and David Miller from the USA.
Their first album, Il Divo, was released in 2004 and became a huge success worldwide. It sold millions of copies and topped music charts. They continued to release many successful albums, including Ancora (2005) and Siempre (2006). Their album The Promise went straight to number one in the UK in 2008.
Il Divo also released a live album, An Evening with Il Divo (Live in Barcelona), which featured their hit song "Unbreak my Heart". In 2011, Il Divo received the Classical Brit Award for Artist of the Decade. They were also named Musical Ambassadors in Japan.
Solo Concerts
Even while performing with Il Divo, Carlos Marín also had his own solo show called Carlos Marín en Concierto. He performed these concerts in Madrid, Spain, starting in 2011. He then took his solo show on a World Tour, performing in places like Mexico, the US, and Japan.
In 2016, he released a DVD/CD of his solo show. This allowed fans around the world to experience his amazing performances.

Carlos Marín married Geraldine Larrosa in 2006. They later divorced in 2009.
Sadly, on December 7, 2021, Carlos became sick with COVID-19. He was hospitalized in Manchester, England, and passed away on December 19, 2021, at the age of 53.
