Carol Lee Scott was a fun English entertainer. She was born on December 20, 1942, and passed away on July 4, 2017. Many people remember her best as "Grotbags" from British TV shows in the 1980s and 1990s. Before becoming a TV star, Carol was a singer. She performed in many shows around the world.

Carol's Early Career

Carol Waterman was born in Bridgwater, Somerset, England. She started her career by singing in pubs in London. At the same time, she worked in a record store.

Her big chance came when she joined Pontins, a holiday camp company. She worked there for 19 years! She performed at all their camps in the UK. She also performed in places like Scandinavia and Spain. When it wasn't holiday season, Carol played in clubs in northern England and Scotland. She even shared the stage with famous stars. These included The Four Tops and Morecambe and Wise. In 1974, she recorded an album. She sold it at her concerts.

Becoming Grotbags

The idea for the character Grotbags came about when Carol was performing. She was working with a comedian named Rod Hull. Rod Hull was asked to create a new TV show. This show would be for the launch of a new TV channel. He decided to create a show called Emu's World.

Rod asked Carol to play a witch character. Together, they created Grotbags. Carol even helped come up with the name!

Grotbags first appeared on Emu's World in January 1982. She starred alongside many funny characters. These included a shy crocodile named Croc. There was also a robot butler, Robot Redford. Her fawning helper was called Grovel. Carol often sang songs in the episodes.

In 1991, Carol was the voice of Grotbags in a cartoon series. It was called Rod 'n' Emu. Grotbags even got her very own TV show! The show was simply called Grotbags. It ran for 29 episodes over three series.

Later Life and Passing

Carol Lee Scott sadly passed away on July 4, 2017. She was 74 years old. She died from cancer.
