College Basketball Journey
Cartier Martin played college basketball at Kansas State University. He became one of the best scorers in the school's history. During his time there, he played for two different coaches: Jim Wooldridge for his first three years and Bob Huggins in his final year.
Professional Basketball Career
After finishing college, Cartier Martin hoped to join the NBA in the 2007 NBA draft, but he was not chosen by any team. This didn't stop him! He started his professional career overseas, playing for a team in the Turkish Basketball League called Antalya Büyükşehir Belediyesi.
Starting in the D-League
After one season in Europe, Cartier was picked by the Iowa Energy in the 2008 D-League Draft. The D-League (now called the G League) is like a minor league for the NBA, where players can develop their skills.
In January 2009, he got a chance to play in the NBA! The Charlotte Bobcats signed him to a 10-day contract. This is a short agreement that lets a team see if a player is a good fit. At the time, he was averaging 20.6 points per game with the Iowa Energy. He was even chosen for the 2009 D-League All-Star Game, but he couldn't play because he was with the Bobcats.
The Bobcats liked what they saw, so they signed him to another 10-day contract, and then for the rest of the season.
Playing in Europe and the NBA
In July 2009, Cartier went back to Europe to play for an Italian team called Benetton Treviso. But he returned to the Iowa Energy in December of that year.
He got more chances in the NBA. In January 2010, he signed a 10-day contract with the Golden State Warriors. Later, in March, he signed with the Washington Wizards and stayed with them for the rest of their season. He continued to play for the Wizards in the 2010-2011 season.
After his time with the Wizards, he played in China for the Jilin Northeast Tigers in 2011. He then returned to the Iowa Energy in 2012 before rejoining the Washington Wizards for another season.
Moving Between Teams
Cartier Martin continued his journey in the NBA, playing for several teams. In 2013, he signed with the Atlanta Hawks. He also had a short time with the Chicago Bulls in 2014 before returning to the Hawks.
In August 2014, he signed with the Detroit Pistons. He played 23 games for them during the 2014–15 season. After being waived by the Pistons, he was picked again by the Iowa Energy in the 2015 NBA Development League draft. He played for the Iowa Energy again in 2016 and then for the Windy City Bulls in 2017.
The Basketball Tournament (TBT)
In the summer of 2017, Cartier Martin joined a special basketball competition called The Basketball Tournament (TBT), which is shown on ESPN. He played for a team called The Stickmen. He was a key player, averaging 16.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. He helped his team reach the second round of the tournament.
