Cartier Alexander Martin (say "kar-TEE-ay"; born November 20, 1984) is an American former professional basketball player. He played for seven seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Before turning pro, he played college basketball for Kansas State.

College Basketball Journey
Cartier Martin played all his college years at Kansas State University. He became one of the top players in the school's history for scoring points. During his first three seasons, his coach was Jim Wooldridge. In his final year, Bob Huggins became his coach.
Professional Basketball Career
After college, Cartier Martin hoped to join the NBA in the 2007 NBA draft. However, no team picked him. So, he started his professional career overseas. He played for a team in the Turkish Basketball League called Antalya Büyükşehir Belediyesi.
Starting in the D-League
After playing one season in Europe, Cartier Martin returned to the United States. He was chosen by the Iowa Energy in the first round of the 2008 NBA Development League Draft. This league is now known as the NBA G-League.
Playing for NBA Teams
Cartier Martin played very well for the Iowa Energy. He averaged 20.6 points per game. Because of his strong performance, the Charlotte Bobcats signed him to a 10-day contract on January 29, 2009. He was even named an All-Star in the D-League that year!
The Bobcats liked his play and signed him for another 10 days. Then, on February 18, 2009, they signed him for the rest of the season.
Moving Between Leagues
In July 2009, Cartier Martin went to play in Italy for a team called Benetton Treviso. But he returned to the Iowa Energy in December 2009.
He continued to move between the NBA and the D-League. On January 10, 2010, the Golden State Warriors signed him for 10 days. After that, he went back to the Iowa Energy. Later, on March 30, he signed a 10-day contract with the Washington Wizards. He then signed with the Wizards for the rest of that season.
More NBA and International Play
The Wizards invited Cartier Martin to their training camp for the 2010–11 season. He played for them until April 6, 2011, when they decided to let him go. After that, he played for the Jilin Northeast Tigers in the Chinese Basketball Association.
After his time in China, Martin came back to the Iowa Energy on March 4, 2012. The Washington Wizards then signed him again for 10 days on March 28. He re-signed with the Wizards on July 12, 2012.
Later NBA Teams
On October 15, 2013, Cartier Martin signed with the Atlanta Hawks. He played 25 games for them, averaging 6.6 points per game. The Hawks let him go on January 7, 2014.
He then signed two 10-day contracts with the Chicago Bulls in January 2014. After his time with the Bulls, he returned to the Atlanta Hawks. He signed two more 10-day contracts with them before signing for the rest of the season on February 21, 2014.
On August 18, 2014, Martin signed with the Detroit Pistons. He played 23 games for them during the 2014–15 season. He then returned to the Iowa Energy in October 2015. He was later picked up by the Windy City Bulls in March 2017.
The Basketball Tournament
In the summer of 2017, Cartier Martin played in The Basketball Tournament, which is shown on ESPN. He played for a team called The Stickmen. He averaged 16.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. His team made it to the second round of the tournament.
