Cayetana Álvarez de Toledo y Peralta-Ramos (born 15 October 1974) is a Spanish journalist, historian, and politician. She is a member of the People's Party. She has been a Member of the Congress of Deputies since May 2019. This means she is an elected representative who helps make laws for Spain. She also served as the main spokesperson for her party in Congress until August 2020.
Cayetana has family roots in Spain, France, and Argentina. Before her current role, she was also a Member of Congress for Madrid from 2008 to 2015. She is also the Director of International Relations for FAES, a Spanish think tank. She writes for the newspaper El Mundo.

About Cayetana Álvarez de Toledo
Cayetana Álvarez de Toledo was born in Madrid, Spain. Her father was French, and her mother was Argentine. Her father, Juan Illán Álvarez de Toledo, was the 14th Marquess of Casa Fuerte. He was a brave fighter in the French Resistance during Second World War. Cayetana holds citizenship in Argentina, France, and Spain.
Early Life and Education
Cayetana spent her early childhood in London. When she was seven, her family moved to Buenos Aires, Argentina. She later returned to the United Kingdom for her university studies. She attended New College at the University of Oxford. There, she earned a degree in Modern History.
In 2000, she completed her PhD in Modern History. Her special study was about Juan de Palafox y Mendoza, who was a Viceroy of New Spain.
Family Life
In 2001, Cayetana married Joaquín Güell, a Spanish businessman. They had two daughters together. They later divorced in January 2018.
After finishing her PhD, she started working as an editor for the newspaper El Mundo in September 2000. She also appeared on a radio talk show called The Morning.
Political Journey
Cayetana Álvarez de Toledo began her political career in 2006. She was chosen to be the Chief of Staff for Ángel Acebes. He was a leader of the People's Party (PP). Her job was to help him with political plans and speeches.
Becoming a Member of Parliament
In 2007, she officially became a Spanish citizen. The next year, she ran in the 2008 general election. She was elected as a Member of Parliament for Madrid. She also served as a Deputy Spokesperson for her party in Parliament. She was re-elected in 2011.
Inheriting a Title
In 2012, her father passed away. A year later, she inherited his noble title. She became the 15th Marchioness of Casa Fuerte.
Views on Spanish Politics
Cayetana has strong opinions on Spanish unity. In 2014, she wrote an article in the Financial Times. She expressed concern about the idea of Catalonia becoming independent from Spain. She also helped start a group called Free and Equal. This group believes in keeping Spain united under its constitution. They want all Spaniards to have equal rights.
One event organized by Free and Equal was in Barcelona in 2014. Cayetana gave a speech there. She spoke about defending the Spanish constitution.
In 2016, she made a comment on social media about a parade in Madrid. She said she was upset about the costumes used in the "Cabalgata de Reyes" (Three Kings Parade).
In 2018, she wrote an article about a feminist strike. She also shared her thoughts after the government of Mariano Rajoy changed. She said she was still part of the People's Party. However, she voted for another party, Ciudadanos. She suggested that the two parties should join together.
Current Role in Congress
In March 2019, it was announced that she would run for Congress again. She was the top candidate for the People's Party in Barcelona. She won the election and became a Member of Congress on May 21, 2019.
In July 2019, the party leader, Pablo Casado, chose her to be the party's main spokesperson in Congress. She continued in this important role until August 2020. Since 2023, she has represented the constituency of Madrid in Congress.
