Cayuga is a small village located in Cayuga County, New York, United States. In 2020, about 472 people lived there. The village gets its name from the Cayuga people, who are an indigenous group, and the nearby lake named after them.
Cayuga village is found in the western part of a larger area called the town of Aurelius.
Village History
The Sullivan Expedition traveled through this area in 1779. The village of Cayuga was officially formed in 1857. It was then re-established in 1874.
The Hutchinson Homestead, an important historical building, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2009.
Where is Cayuga?
Cayuga is located on the eastern side of the northern part of Cayuga Lake. This lake is one of New York's famous Finger Lakes.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the village covers a total area of about 3.5 square kilometers (1.37 square miles). About 2.3 square kilometers (0.90 square miles) of this is land, and 1.2 square kilometers (0.46 square miles) is water. This means about 33.81% of the village's area is water.
New York State Route 90 is a main road that runs north and south through the village.

- Andrew Harris (1814–1841) was an African American minister and abolitionist. He grew up in Cayuga.
- John Richardson Harris (1790−1829) was the person who founded Harrisburg, Texas.
- Marie Parcello (1860–1937) was an opera singer who was born in Cayuga.
- Rod Serling (1924–1975) was the creator of the famous TV show The Twilight Zone. He lived in Cayuga for some time.
- William Foote Whyte (1914–2000) was a sociologist who retired and lived in Cayuga.
