Centertown is a small city located in Ohio County, Kentucky, in the United States. It is known as a "home rule-class city," which means it has the power to manage its own local affairs. In 2020, about 416 people lived there.
History of Centertown
Centertown became an official city in 1890. Its name tells you something important about its location! The city was named "Centertown" because it is located right in the middle of two important places: Hartford and Point Pleasant. Point Pleasant was a busy shipping port on the Green River, where goods were loaded and unloaded from boats.
Geography of Centertown
Centertown is found at coordinates 37.416771 degrees North and 86.995243 degrees West. The city is mainly built along two roads that join together: Kentucky Route 69 and Kentucky Route 85. These roads meet just west of Centertown.
- KY 85 comes from Island in the northwest.
- The roads separate again east of the city.
- KY 69 continues east towards Hartford.
- KY 85 turns south to connect with US 62 near Rockport.
The United States Census Bureau says that Centertown covers a total area of about 0.3 square miles (0.8 square kilometers). All of this area is land, with no large bodies of water inside the city limits.
