Central City is a small village located in Marion County, Illinois, United States. In 2020, about 1,098 people lived there. It's a quiet place in the southwestern part of the county.

Exploring Central City's Location
Central City is in southwestern Marion County. It shares a border with the city of Centralia to the south. A main road, U.S. Route 51, goes right through Central City. This road is known as Broadway and Commercial Street in the village. It leads south into Centralia and north about 5 miles (8 km) to Sandoval.
Land and Water Around Central City
The U.S. Census Bureau says Central City covers about 0.57 square miles (1.48 square kilometers) of land. There is no water area within the village limits. Crooked Creek flows along the northern edge of the village. This creek flows west and eventually joins the Kaskaskia River.

The number of people living in Central City has changed over the years. In 1880, there were 411 residents. The population grew quite a bit in the early 1900s, reaching 1,179 in 1910. It hit its highest point in 1940 with 1,562 people. Since then, the population has slowly decreased. In 2020, 1,098 people called Central City home.
