Communities Built for Power

Years ago, Hydro Tasmania built power stations in the Central Highlands. They needed many workers for these projects. So, they created special communities for them to live in. Many of these workers were new migrants to Australia.

Tarraleah: A Historic Hydro Town

One important community was Tarraleah, started in 1934. It was a big town for workers building the Upper Derwent Power Development. A part of Tarraleah, called Ticklebelly Flat, was where married workers lived. This area has become famous in the history of Hydro Tasmania.
