Cerro Solo is a very tall mountain that is also a type of volcano called a stratovolcano. It is located right on the border between Argentina and Chile. This impressive peak stands at 6,215 meters (about 20,390 feet) high!
Cerro Solo is west of another famous mountain, Ojos del Salado. It has nine different places where lava used to erupt. The mountain is covered in light-colored rock and ash from old eruptions.
This mountain is part of a special protected area in Argentina. This area is called the Catamarca High Andean and Puna Lakes Ramsar Site. It helps protect important natural places. Cerro Solo is found in the Catamarca region of Argentina and the Copiapo region of Chile.
Who First Climbed Cerro Solo?
The first people to reach the top of Cerro Solo were a team from Chile. They were Luis Alvarado, Jorge Balastino, Carlos Alvarez, and Oscar Alvarez. They made this amazing first climb on February 21, 1950.
