Chang Chen (born October 14, 1976) is a famous actor from Taiwan. He is known for his roles in many popular movies. Some of his most famous films include A Brighter Summer Day (1991), Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000), and Dune (2021).
For his amazing acting in the movie The Soul, he won the Best Leading Actor award at the 58th Golden Horse Awards. This is a very important award for actors in the Chinese-speaking world.

Acting Career
Chang Chen began acting when he was very young. His father, Chang Kuo-chu, is also an actor. When Chang was a teenager, director Edward Yang chose him to star in the movie A Brighter Summer Day. The movie was a big success and won an award at the Tokyo International Film Festival.
Rising to Fame
Chang became even more famous after acting in the movie Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon in 2000. In this film, directed by Ang Lee, he played a character named "Dark Cloud." The movie was a huge hit all over the world.
He also worked with the famous director Wong Kar-wai on several films, including Happy Together (1997) and 2046 (2004).
In 2005, he starred with actress Shu Qi in the film Three Times. The movie was shown at the famous Cannes Film Festival in France. For his role, Chang was nominated for Best Actor at the Golden Horse Awards.
Major Roles and Awards
Chang has played many different characters in his career. In 2006, he played a master of the board game Go in the movie The Go Master. His performance earned him another nomination for a Golden Horse Award.
He also starred in the big-budget war movie Red Cliff (2008-2009), where he played the warlord Sun Quan. This role got him a nomination for Best Supporting Actor at the Hong Kong Film Awards.
In 2014, he starred in the martial arts film Brotherhood of Blades. The movie was very popular, and he was nominated for Best Actor at the Golden Horse Awards for the third time. He later returned for the sequel, Brotherhood of Blades 2, in 2017.
International Success
Chang Chen is also known to audiences around the world. In 2021, he played Dr. Wellington Yueh in the American science fiction movie Dune. The film was directed by Denis Villeneuve and was a global success.
That same year, he finally won the Golden Horse Award for Best Leading Actor for his role in the mystery film The Soul. This was a huge moment in his career after being nominated three times before.
Because of his talent and experience, Chang has been asked to be a jury member at important film festivals, including the Cannes Film Festival in 2018 and the Golden Horse Awards in 2022. In 2023, he was invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the group that gives out the Oscar awards.
Personal Life
Chang Chen was born in Taipei, Taiwan. His father, Chang Kuo-chu, and his older brother, Chang Han, are also actors.
In November 2013, Chang married his girlfriend, Ann Zhuang. They have a daughter who was born in March 2015.
