Shu Qi (born Lin Li-hui on April 16, 1976) is a famous actress and model from Hong Kong and Taiwan. She is known for her amazing acting skills.
Shu Qi is one of the most successful actresses from Taiwan. She has won many important awards. These include three Hong Kong Film Awards and two Golden Horse Awards. She has worked with famous director Hou Hsiao-hsien on three movies. These movies are Millennium Mambo (2001), Three Times (2005), and The Assassin (2015). Shu Qi has also starred in popular movies that made a lot of money. Some of these are If You Are the One (2008) and Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons (2013).
Shu Qi has often been listed among the top celebrities in China by Forbes magazine.

Early Life
Shu Qi was born in Xindian, which is now part of New Taipei City in Taiwan. When she was 17, she moved to Hong Kong. She wanted to start a career in movies there. She began working with Hong Kong film producer Manfred Wong.
Her Acting Career

Shu Qi starred in the 1996 film Viva .... For her role in this movie, she won the Best Supporting Actress award. This was at the 16th Hong Kong Film Awards in 1997. After this, she appeared in many Hong Kong films. These included Portland Street Blues (1998) and City of Glass (1998). She also starred in the very popular movie Gorgeous (1999). These roles helped her become a mainstream actress.
In 2002, Shu Qi acted in the French movie The Transporter. This was her first movie in the American market. Later, in 2008, she had a small part in the romantic comedy New York, I Love You.
One of Shu Qi's important early films was The Foliage (2004). It was a romance movie set in China. She won the Best Actress award for her acting in this film. She worked with director Hou Hsiao-hsien again in Three Times (2005). This movie was shown at the Cannes Film Festival. Shu Qi won the Best Actress award at the Golden Horse Awards for her role.
In 2006, Shu Qi starred in My Wife Is a Gangster 3. She also appeared in the crime drama Confession of Pain.
Shu Qi was a judge at major film festivals. She was a judge at the 58th Berlin International Film Festival in 2008. She also judged at the 62nd Cannes Film Festival in 2009. That same year, she won Best Actress at the Huabiao Awards. This was for her role in the romantic comedy If You Are the One. This movie was the highest-grossing Chinese film that year.
In 2013, Shu Qi starred in Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons. This movie was directed by Stephen Chow. It became the highest-grossing Chinese movie at that time.
Shu Qi worked with director Hou Hsiao-hsien again in 2015. She played the main character in his action film The Assassin. The movie received great reviews at the Cannes Film Festival. Shu Qi won the Best Actress award for her performance. The same year, she starred in the popular film Mojin: The Lost Legend.
In 2016, Shu Qi starred in the Chinese remake of My Best Friend's Wedding. In 2017, she appeared in The Village of No Return and The Adventurers.
In 2019, Shu Qi starred in the science fiction movie Shanghai Fortress. In 2023, she was a jury member at the 80th Venice International Film Festival. In June 2024, Shu Qi was invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. This is the group that gives out the Oscars.
Other Activities
Shu Qi has also been a spokesperson for many famous brands. From 2006 to 2009, she was part of the advertising for the perfume Flower by Kenzo. She also worked for Shiatzy Chen.
Since 2008, Shu Qi has been an ambassador for Frederique Constant watches in Asia. In 2009, she helped repaint murals at a children's hospital in Beijing. This was part of a charity project.
Shu Qi has also been an ambassador for Emporio Armani and Bulgari. Since 2023, she has been a Global Brand Ambassador for Bulgari. In 2023, she also became a Global Spokesperson for Michael Kors. Later that year, she was named brand ambassador for Tom Ford Beauty in China and Asia-Pacific. In October 2023, Bottega Veneta announced her as their Global Brand Ambassador. In 2025, Estée Lauder named her as their global spokesperson for skincare.
Personal Life
Shu Qi married Hong Kong actor and director Stephen Fung in 2016. They first met in 1997 while working on the movie Bishonen. They were friends for 20 years before they started dating and got married.
