Geography and Location

Chapin is found in the northwest part of Morgan County. A main road, U.S. Route 67, runs along the north side of the village. This road goes east about 10 miles to Jacksonville, which is the main city of the county. It also goes northwest about 22 miles to Beardstown. Another road, Illinois Route 104, shares the same path as US 67 through Chapin.

The village covers an area of about 1 square mile (2.59 square kilometers), and all of it is land. Chapin is built on high ground, which means water flows away from it in different directions. Streams like Lick Branch and Coon Run start near Chapin and eventually flow into the Illinois River. The southern part of the village drains into Mauvaise Terre Creek, which also flows towards the Illinois River.
