A Sweet History
How it All Began
The company started way back in 1875. Prince Albert, who later became King Edward VII, encouraged two talented women to open a chocolate shop in London. These women were Virginie Eugenie Lévy, also known as Charbonnel, from a famous chocolate house in Paris, and Minnie Walker.
They teamed up to create "Parisian Confectioners and Bon-Bon Manufacturers." Even though their first partnership ended a few years later, the name Charbonnel et Walker lived on.
Royal Connections
Charbonnel et Walker has a special connection with the British Royal Family. They hold a Royal Warrant as Chocolate Manufacturers to the Queen. This means they are official suppliers of chocolate to the Royal Household!
Where the Magic Happens
For many years, Charbonnel et Walker made their chocolates in Tunbridge Wells, Kent. However, in 2018, they moved their production to Poundbury, Dorset. Their main shop is still in the Royal Arcade on Bond Street in London, which is close to where they first started.
Famous Fans
Over the years, many well-known people have enjoyed Charbonnel et Walker chocolates. Some of their famous customers included the writer Noël Coward, who reportedly had a box of chocolates delivered every two weeks. Other famous fans were Wallis Simpson, actors Sir John Gielgud and Sir Alec Guinness, actress Lauren Bacall, and even members of the Royal Family like Princess Diana and Princess Margaret.
Delicious Chocolates and Treats
Charbonnel et Walker offers a wide range of yummy chocolates. They also make other sweet treats like crystalized ginger and glazed brazil nuts.
Special Chocolates
One of their most famous creations is the Marc de Champagne Chocolate Truffles. These are rich chocolate truffles with a special chocolate butter that has a hint of Marc de Champagne.
Fun Flavors
The company also has a cool "James Bond – 007" collection, inspired by the famous spy movies. This includes unique treats like 007 Dry Martini Truffles. They also make delicious hot drinking chocolate, which was first created by Charbonnel in 1875. You can find it in classic Original and Sea Salt Caramel flavors.
