Charles & Eddie was an American soul music music duo. It was made up of two singers, Charles Pettigrew and Eddie Chacon. They became famous for their hit song "Would I Lie to You?". This song was from their first album, Duophonic, released in 1992.
"Would I Lie to You?" won three Ivor Novello Awards in 1993. These awards were for Best Contemporary Song, Best-Selling Song, and International Hit of the Year. Between 1992 and 1995, they had three more songs reach the top 40 in the UK.

Their Journey as a Duo
Charles Pettigrew and Eddie Chacon reportedly met in 1990. They were on the New York City Subway, specifically the C train. Eddie Chacon shared that one of them was carrying a vinyl record of the Marvin Gaye album Trouble Man.
They released their first album, Duophonic, in 1992. It came out on Capitol Records. This album included their hit singles "Would I Lie to You?", "N.Y.C.", and "House Is Not a Home". The music on the album was inspired by classic soul music.
Their second and last album was Chocolate Milk, released in 1995. This album featured the song "Wounded Bird". This song was specially written and recorded for the movie True Romance. The duo decided to go their separate ways in 1997. They ended their partnership on good terms.

Charles Pettigrew was born and grew up in Philadelphia. He studied jazz singing at Berklee College of Music in Boston. He was the lead singer of a band called Down Avenue. This band won WBCN's 1985 Rock 'n' Roll Rumble competition.
In 1998, Charles toured with the band Tom Tom Club. This band included Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth from Talking Heads. Charles later joined Tom Tom Club. He helped write and sang on several of their songs. He continued with them until he became too ill to perform.
Charles Pettigrew passed away on April 6, 2001, at the age of 37.

Eddie Chacon is Hispanic. He grew up in Hayward and Castro Valley, California. When he was 12, he started his first band with his friends Cliff Burton (who later joined Metallica) and Mike Bordin (who later joined Faith No More).
In his early twenties, Eddie worked as a songwriter for CBS Songs. He also made albums for Columbia and Luther Campbell of 2 Live Crew. These albums were not officially released. He also made demo songs with the Dust Brothers. After Charles & Eddie split up, he worked as a photographer and creative director.
In May 2020, after about twenty years, Eddie Chacon returned to music. He released a single called "My Mind Is Out of Its Mind". This song was from his album Pleasure, Joy and Happiness. The album was produced and co-written by John Carroll Kirby, who works with Solange. In July 2020, KCRW radio station played his second single, "Trouble". The New York Times praised his album, saying it explored themes of passion and heartbreak. In 2020, he also released a song called "High" with Stones Throw Records' John Carroll Kirby and harp player Nailah Hunter.
His second solo album, Sundown, came out on March 31, 2023. This album was also well-received by music critics.
