Charles E. Brown (born December 11, 1841 – died February 20, 1919) was an American soldier. He fought bravely in the American Civil War. Charles Brown earned the Medal of Honor. This is the highest award for bravery in the United States. He received it for his actions during the Battle of Globe Tavern. This important battle happened on August 19, 1864. Brown was given this special award on December 1, 1864.

Charles E. Brown was born in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. His birthday was December 11, 1841. He joined the army on September 9, 1861. He became part of the 50th Pennsylvania Infantry.
His Military Service
Brown was promoted to Sergeant while serving. He showed great courage during the Battle of Globe Tavern. This battle took place on August 19, 1864. During the fight, he captured the battle flag of the 47th Virginia Infantry. Capturing an enemy flag was a very brave act.
Medal of Honor
Because of his bravery, Charles Brown received the Medal of Honor. This is the highest military award in the United States. After this, he was promoted again. He became a 1st Lieutenant. Later, he became a Captain and led his company. He fought throughout the entire Civil War. Brown left the army on July 30, 1865.
