Charles "Charlie" Hodge (born July 28, 1933 – died April 16, 2016) was a Canadian ice hockey goaltender. He played in the National Hockey League for teams like the Montreal Canadiens and the Oakland Seals. He was known for his time protecting the net.

Playing Career

Charlie Hodge played his first game in the NHL in 1954. This was with the Montreal Canadiens. Back then, most hockey teams only had one main goalie. The Canadiens had Jacques Plante, who was one of the best goalies ever.

Because of this, Charlie mostly played in the AHL. He would only play for the Canadiens if there was an emergency. He worked hard and waited for his chance.

In 1962, Jacques Plante was traded to another team. This was Charlie's big opportunity! He became the main goalie for the Canadiens. He showed everyone how good he was.

Charlie won the Vezina Trophy twice. This award goes to the best goalie in the league. He won it by himself in the 1963–64 season. He shared it with Gump Worsley in the 1965–66 season.

His name is on the Stanley Cup six times. The Stanley Cup is the championship trophy for the NHL. He played in one of those winning finals games. He also played in the 1955 finals, but his team lost that year.

Later Life

After his playing days, Charlie Hodge continued to be involved in hockey. He worked as a scout for the Pittsburgh Penguins. As a scout, he helped find new talented players for the team. He was part of the Penguins winning the Stanley Cup in 1992.

Death

Charlie Hodge passed away on April 16, 2016. He was 82 years old. He died in Vancouver, British Columbia, after getting sick.
