Charly Alberti was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on March 27, 1963. His father, Tito Alberti, was also a jazz musician and drummer. Charly started learning music when he was just six years old.

Charly met Gustavo Cerati, who would become the singer and guitarist of Soda Stereo. They met through Gustavo's sister, Maria Laura. She told Charly that her brother also loved the band The Police and played guitar. This led Charly to connect with Gustavo.

Joining Soda Stereo

In 1982, Charly Alberti helped create the Argentinian rock band Soda Stereo. He was the drummer, and the band quickly became very popular. In 1986, a company called Remo, which makes musical instruments, sponsored Charly. This meant he used their drumheads.

Soda Stereo became one of the most important and successful rock bands in Latin America. They released many hit songs and albums.

After Soda Stereo

In 1997, Soda Stereo played their last concert at River Plate Stadium in Buenos Aires. After the band broke up, Charly started new projects. He launched a company called Cybrel Digital Entertainment, which focused on new technology.

That same year, Steve Jobs, who co-founded Apple, named Charly an "AppleMaster." Charly was the only Spanish-speaking AppleMaster ever! He also launched URL Magazine, URL Records, and a website called Yeyeye.com.

New Music and Projects

In 2003, MTV Latin America invited Charly Alberti to perform at the MTV Video Music Awards Latinoamérica. He performed alongside famous artists like Ricky Martín and Juanes.

In 2005, Charly started a new band called MOLE. His brother Andrés Alberti played lead guitar, Ezequial Dasso played bass, and Sergio Bufi was the singer. MOLE released their first album in April 2007.

In March 2008, MOLE won an award for "Best Album by a New Rock Band" at the Gardel Awards. Charly also worked on a project for the National Secretariat of Tourism of Argentina, which won an award at the Webby Awards. In 2009, MOLE shared the stage with the British band Oasis at River Stadium.

Environmental Work

Charly Alberti is also very passionate about protecting the environment. In May 2009, he met with Al Gore, a former Vice President of the United States and Nobel Peace Prize winner. Al Gore invited Charly to join his environmental project, The Climate Project.

In 2015, Charly represented his organization, R21, at the Latin Alternative Music Conference (LAMC) in New York. R21 works to promote sustainability. Charly spoke about the importance of environmental sustainability at the festival.

In 2017, he became a Goodwill Ambassador for the U.N. Development Program. This means he helps the United Nations promote important goals.

Soda Stereo Reunion Tour

In 2019, Soda Stereo announced a special international tour called "Gracias Totales." This tour allowed fans to see the band live one "last time." During this tour, Soda Stereo took steps to help the environment. They planted 4,700 native trees to make up for the carbon pollution from their travel. This made them one of the first Latin American tours to do something like this.
