A Look Back: History of Chermside West
The name Chermside comes from Sir Herbert Chermside. He was a Queensland Governor a long time ago.
Early Churches and Schools
St Gerard Majella's Catholic Church first opened in 1962. Later, in 1977, they built a new church. The old church building is now used by the Kedron Brook Christadelphians.
The Prince of Peace Lutheran Church also opened around 1965. This church later started the Prince of Peace Lutheran Primary School in a nearby suburb.
Schools Open Their Doors
Craigslea State School, a primary school, welcomed its first students on January 24, 1972. A few years later, Craigslea State High School opened on January 28, 1975.
