Cherokee Bryan Parks (born October 11, 1972) is a former professional basketball player from the United States. He played for nine seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA).

Cherokee Parks: A Basketball Journey

Cherokee Parks was a tall basketball player, standing 6 feet 11 inches (211 cm) tall. He weighed about 240 pounds (109 kg). He played as a center or power forward.

College Basketball Success

Before joining the NBA, Parks played college basketball for the Duke Blue Devils. His coach was the famous Mike Krzyzewski. In his first year, 1992, his team won the national championship. This was a huge achievement for him and his team.

Playing in the NBA

After college, Cherokee Parks was chosen by the Dallas Mavericks in the 1995 NBA draft. He was the 12th player picked overall. His NBA career lasted nine seasons, from 1995 to 2004.

During the 1997–98 season with the Minnesota Timberwolves, he had his best performance. He averaged about 7.1 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.

Life After the NBA

Later, he worked for the New Orleans Pelicans as a team liaison. This role helps connect players with the team. Today, he works in Player Development for the NBA. This means he helps players improve their skills and careers.

How He Got His Name

Cherokee Parks' mother named him "Cherokee" because of his family history. In 1972, when she was expecting him, she learned that her husband's great-grandmother was a full-blooded Cherokee person. Parks said his name was a way to honor this family connection.
