Chevroux is a charming small town, also called a municipality, located in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland. It's part of the Broye-Vully area. This lovely place sits right on the southeast bank of Lake Neuchâtel, one of Switzerland's beautiful lakes. It includes the main village of Chevroux and a smaller area called Ostende, which used to be known as Chevrottet.

The History of Chevroux

Chevroux has a long history! It was first mentioned in official records way back in 1286. Back then, it was known by a slightly different name: Chevroth.

Exploring Chevroux's Geography

Chevroux covers an area of about 4.37 square kilometers (1.69 square miles). A big part of this land, almost half (47.6%), is used for farming. Imagine fields full of crops and pastures where animals graze! About 19% of the area is covered by forests, providing green spaces and homes for wildlife.

A smaller part, about 9.4%, is where buildings and roads are located. This is where people live and move around. A tiny bit (0.5%) is made up of rivers or lakes, which is important for the local environment. Interestingly, about 23.1% of the land is considered "unproductive," meaning it's not used for farming or building.

Chevroux is special because it's located right on the edge of Lake Neuchâtel. This means residents and visitors can enjoy beautiful lake views and activities. Until 2006, Chevroux was part of the Payerne District. But then, it became part of the newer Broye-Vully District.
