Grandcour is a small town, also called a municipality, located in the Broye-Vully area of the canton of Vaud in Switzerland. It's a charming place with a rich history and beautiful natural surroundings.

Grandcour's History

Grandcour was first mentioned in official records way back in 1212. At that time, it was known as apud grancort. This means it has been a recognized place for over 800 years!

Grandcour covers an area of about 10.21 square kilometers (about 4 square miles). A large part of this land, almost 79%, is used for farming. This means you'll see lots of fields and crops around. About 14% of the area is covered by forests, offering beautiful green spaces.

The town itself, with its buildings and roads, makes up about 6.8% of the land. There's also a tiny bit of the area, 0.1%, that includes rivers or lakes. Most of the water in Grandcour is flowing water, like streams.

Grandcour used to be part of the Payerne District. But in 2006, it became part of the newer and larger Broye-Vully district. The municipality includes the main village of Grandcour and two smaller settlements called Ressudens and Chesard.

A coat of arms is like a special symbol or logo for a town or family. Grandcour's coat of arms has a unique design. It features six vertical stripes, alternating between silver (or white) and blue.
