The Chicamocha River is an important river in central-eastern Colombia. It flows through the Boyacá and Santander areas. This river is part of a bigger river system called the Magdalena. The Magdalena River eventually flows into the Caribbean Sea.
The Chicamocha River starts in a place called Tuta in the Boyacá Department. It then travels through the Santander Department. Later, it meets another river, the Suárez River. The Suárez River also has a smaller branch called the Fonce River. When these rivers join, they form the Sogamoso River.
Chicamocha National Park
The Chicamocha River flows through a huge valley known as the Chicamocha Canyon. This canyon is home to a very popular place called the Chicamocha National Park. People often call it PANACHI, which is short for Parque Nacional del Chicamocha.
This park is a major spot for tourists in Colombia. It was even considered to be one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature. This shows how special and beautiful the Chicamocha Canyon truly is.
